Colorado is one of the best states in the country to own an EV — and that extends to charger installation. Here's what's available and how to claim it.
The federal Alternative Fuel Vehicle Refueling Property Credit covers 30% of your EV charger installation cost, up to $1,000 for residential installs. It applies to both the hardware and the installation labor. To claim it, your install needs to be properly documented — which we provide.
Colorado has consistently offered some of the most aggressive EV incentives in the nation, including programs that support home and community charging. Specific programs and amounts change year to year, so we keep current on what's active and make sure your install is structured to qualify.
If you're an Xcel Energy customer — which covers most of the Douglas County area — there are utility rebate programs for Level 2 home charging and time-of-use charging plans that lower your ongoing charging costs. Commercial and multi-family properties have access to even larger Xcel incentives.
Most of these programs require a permitted, code-compliant, inspected installation. A cut-corner job by an unlicensed installer can disqualify you from the very incentives that make the project affordable.
